Conflict resolution, as well as conflict management and transformation are highly important in any team and group work as well as in our life in general. On the one hand, conflicts necessarily occur at one point or another. On the other hand, when dealt with in a good manner, they have a high potential to bring us into learning and moving on, as an individual, team or group.. So, let’s learn together how we can actually deal with conflicts.
In this workshop we want to dive into theoretical approaches to conflict management and transformation and then try out practically some tools and methods, in order to understand how we can best use the approaches and address conflicts as facilitators working with groups and teams. You will get familiar with basic theories and models of conflict analysis, you will learn how to identify causes and symptoms of conflicts in a group, how to address them in a constructive manner and use them as opportunities for progress. You will also discover how you can support others in developing a peaceful attitude towards themselves in situations of conflict.
The workshop consists of two online sessions combining theory and practice of conflict resolution and is for facilitators who want to get a deeper knowledge on the topic, as well as to try out practical tools and approaches that can help in daily conflict situations. With case work we want to make this hot topic tangible and relate to your contexts.
The workshop covers:
- theoretical aspects: the conflict escalation ladder; non-violent communication; the conflict management model by Thomas Kilmann, the onion model
- practical aspects: tools & techniques to face conflictual situations (simulations); negotiations (role play); – practicing questioning; practicing Nonviolent Communication; case studies of conflictual situations/positions
You will experience:
- a good balance between theory and practice delivered in two three-hour-long online sessions on Zoom
- self-directed learning with readings and group work in between the sessions
- interactive online sessions implemented by experienced facilitators
- a learning community, with opportunities to exchange ideas and gain feedback from other participants
- a purpose-driven and process-oriented training design
- context adapted learning and including try outs with feedback
This workshop is for you if:
- you are facilitating working with teams and groups
- you have some experience in conflict resolution and want to dive deeper
- you want to get to know different approaches on the topic
- you want to connect with other facilitators, project managers and educators to exchange and learn from each other.

Linnéa Mühlenkamp is passionate about creating educational spaces for young people to become active in society. She is working as a freelance trainer and facilitator in non-formal education projects and programs, mostly in Germany and North Africa. Her topical expertise includes organisational development, community building and civic education. She is the co-founder of TraumWerkStadt e.V., a local association in Ruhr area implementing the program RuhrstadtTRÄUMER that supports young people to find their place in (civil) society. As a facilitator, Linnéa loves creating equal and safe spaces, always working process-oriented and towards positive social and organisational change.
Elyes Guermezi is the Founder & Executive Director of the International Institute of Debate, a Tunisian NGO which aims to empower young people skills through education. He has travelled to different countries through the Arab regions, especially in conflict zones such as Yemen and Syrian camps in Jordan engaging young people to discuss their pressing issues for civic engagement, human rights and economic empowerment. His bold character in speaking for youth issues in Tunisia gave him a platform to panel and facilitate different national and international forums with focus on youth and women. He co-founded the Tunisian American Alumni Network and Tunisian Center for Social Entrepreneurship (TCSE). In April 2018, he was elected the 4th Ashoka Arab World fellow as a leader and director of the iiDebate organization, he was also selected as part of the Obama Foundation Leader program in 2019, and finally he is the chair of the advisory board of the organization Drabzeen Human Development in Jordan. Elyes is fluent in English, French & Arabic.
