Why facilitation matters

Who is it for?

Do you want to facilitate positive social change or learning in your team, community or ecosystem? Do you already have experience and would like to deepen your facilitation practice and get connected to other facilitators? Or do you not yet have any experience but enjoy bringing people together for a common cause and purpose? Then this facilitator qualification course is for you. Whether engaged in formal or non-formal education, join us to learn about non-formal methods, get inspired and exchange with peers. You can start with a basic training, get a slight boost with an advanced training or enroll in the full 1½ year facilitator qualification course.

What will you learn

How can I address and involve participants’ cognitive, emotional and practical skills? How can I deal with conflicts in groups? What does it mean to enable learning in a brave and safe space? You will get to know the core approaches of facilitation and you will learn and practice designing and facilitating group learning processes with your head, heart and hands.

A facilitator adapts their design and proposal to a specific target group or a client. You will learn how to design your activities for different target groups and how you can position yourself on the market.

Online facilitation demands different skills, competences and methods than offline. You will discover and practice how to design and facilitate participative and interactive online events and be equipped with digital tools and methods to make your online events inclusive, interactive and enjoyable.

Learning is a lifelong process and self-steering one’s own learning path is at the core of the practice of a good facilitator. You will learn how to design your own learning path and will be accompanied by a learning supervisor throughout your course.

We believe that productive ideas and projects that lead to action can emerge only through co-creation and participation. You will learn how to create democratic learning spaces that are diversity sensitive and empower each individual.

The way you invite your participants, set up and host your learning event creates its atmosphere and frame. You will learn how to create an inviting and sustainable learning space as well as how you can host yourself and others.

Element 25

14 Days - blended

Basic Facilitation Training

In this 2-week blended learning training you will explore the role and position of a facilitator, become familiar with the foundations of educational theory and adult learning and learn how to design facilitation sessions and educational events with methods that address the different needs and resources of your participants.
Element 26

10 Days - blended

Advanced Facilitation Training

In this 10-day blended learning you will, based on your experience, reflect and explore the position and role of a facilitator, dive into facilitation as a framework of concepts and work on specific group dynamic cases such as dealing with disruptions.
Element 27

10 Days - blended

Online Facilitation Training

In this 10-day blended learning training, combining four live online sessions with asynchronous group work and readings, you will learn about facilitating group processes of co-creation, learning and creativity in a digital space, by creating an enjoyable, inclusive and interactive setting. Through peer-to-peer learning you will connect and exchange with other facilitators and education practitioners on an international level.
Element 28

1 Day - online

Mid Term Reflection

8-10 months after the first module we will design a moderated space in an online format for intermediate reflection on your facilitation learning. The mid-term reflection will be organized in smaller groups and you will be able to choose the most suitable time and option.
Element 29

5 Days - in-person

Reflective Lab

With this 5-day training you will complete your facilitator qualification course. It is designed as a case study lab, where the agenda is mostly based on your cases from facilitation and collective reflection on it. In addition, the training will provide space for deeper reflection of facilitation as a framework as well as of facilitation as a role. Among other things, you will explore facilitation and psychology; facilitation and politics; and congruence and resilience of a facilitator.
Learning Supervision
6
Hours
You will have an individual learning supervisor supporting you in at least two meetings, monitoring your learning goals and your self-assessment. The learning supervisor helps you to reflect on your facilitation practice and discuss practice cases that are open or unclear.
Peer-to-peer Learning
You will experience the power of peer learning based on trust in the knowledge, experience and perspectives of your peers. Peer-to-peer learning is a voluntary and self-organized reflection format. In groups of 3-4 people matched in the first module of your course, we will provide you with basic tools for intervision and full freedom to organize your knowledge exchange and reflections.
FacilitaTion Practice
15
Days
Learning by doing! You will practice your facilitation during the facilitator qualification course, self-organized and at your own pace. We recommend 15 days of practice both in online and offline settings (3-4 hours online are equivalent to one day offline).
