Dates: 12 & 14 December 2023
Time: 3-6pm CET
Location: Zoom

In today’s changing world, hierarchical structures are less and less effective, and the development of viable decisions requires participation. But sitting in a circle and using interactive methods might not be enough for a truly participatory process. Creating space and leading the process requires attention from the facilitator on many levels – knowledge about group dynamics, maintaining a balance between the process and achieving goals, and even reviewing the facilitator’s own beliefs and understanding how our attitude can affect the process.

You will get acquainted with different phases of participatory processes in this workshop, and learn how to create transparent decision-making procedures. You will discover how to foster participation and enable teamwork based on democratic values. You will be able to apply your learnings to different contexts such as processes of innovation, collaboration, ideation and decision-making.

This workshop, combining two three-hour-long live sessions with asynchronous individual tasks, is for all those of you who already have some experience in facilitation and are looking to deepen the knowledge about participatory process, inspiration, exchange, new tools and approaches. Through peer-to-peer learning you will connect and exchange with other facilitators and education practitioners on an international level.

This workshop covers:

  • how to create democratic and inclusive learning spaces: the decision-making processes are transparent, participation is fostered, and participants experience democracy in teamwork
  • getting to know the different phases of participatory processes
  • getting to know which different attitudes, methods and tools can help you enable participatory decision-making and how to apply them in your facilitation
  • how you can apply your learnings to different contexts such as processes of innovation, collaboration, ideation and decision-making

You will experience:

  • a good balance between theory and practice delivered in two three-hour-long online sessions via Zoom
  • a purpose-driven and process-oriented training design
  • self-directed learning and work on three levels: knowledge, skills, attitude
  • interactive online sessions by experienced facilitators
  • access to a learning community, with opportunities to exchange ideas and gain feedback from other participants

This workshop is for you if:

  • you already bring in some basic experience in working with groups or moderating
  • you are facilitating group processes and need to structure your knowledge and obtain new methods
  • you search for ways, methods and tools on how to involve different experiences and voices
